Alexandre Emile Jean Yersin, 1863 - 1943. Swiss-French physician and bacteriologist. He was the co-discoverer of Yersinia pestis, the bacillus which causes bubonic plague. Yersin spent much of his life in Vietnam where his name is honoured. He died there.
