Caption: Alice Lisle by E. M. Ward, F. Heath, from the collection of D. Price -. Alice Lisle (c. 1614 - September 2, 1685), commonly known as Lady Alice Lisle. Her husband John Lisle (d. 1664) had been one of the judges at the trial of Charles I and was a member of Cromwell's House of Lords. Lady Lisle leaned to Royalism but displayed a sympathy with religious dissent. Sentenced to execution by burning (later beheading instead). ©TopFoto
