Unicycle invented by Longmook and Strief, mechanical engineers from New York. The public test of the unicycle was held in Rouen (France), with success. The monocycle consists of a large wheel with a diameter of 2.30 metres, at the centre of which, on an inner rail, rests another small wheel that supports the velocipedist's seat, which in turn is held by pieces on the sides of the large wheel. One of the advantages of the system was the sensation of security that the velocipedist had by being able to circulate at a lower height above ground level than in previous existing models. Engraving. La Ilustracion Espa–ola y Americana, 1881.
