WWII, Radiation Burn Marks, Hiroshima,1945

On August 6, 1945, near the end of World War II, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, destroying the city and killing over 70,000 people. In this image from a medical report of the bombing, the dark-colored pattern of a woman's clothes is shown to have absorbed thermal energy and burned the skin, particularly around more tight-fitting areas, such as the shoulders.
