Caption:
The Great Mosque of Xian, founded in 742 CE, is the oldest mosque in China. The original structure was built during the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) although much of the present day mosque was reconstructed during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). The mosque is completely Chinese in its construction and architectural style, except for some Arabic lettering and decorations. There are no domes or traditional-style minarets.
