The Eastern Question. Serbian-Turkish Wars (1876-1878). Serbia declared war on the Ottoman Empire on June 30, 1876. The Battle of Alexinatz. The Turkish army, commanded by Ali Saib Pasha, attacked the head of Alexinatz's fortified bridge over the Morav river, retreating the Serbs. Arrival of the injured at the St. Thomas Hospital, in the besieged city, which was in charge of the English section of the Red Cross.
