Breastplate of a harquebusier's armor for a young man, Breastplate of a harquebusier's armor for a young man. Probably a Dutch armor with a stadtholder background. Typical Dutch elements are the decorated rivets of the swivel hooks and the flattened surface of other rivets, as well as the 'striped' edges of the neck and armholes. The brace-shaped lines on the breastplate and the slight kink in the middle of the neck collar are also features that are often seen on Dutch harnesses. The rosette-shaped decoration around the rivets still shows traces of gilding in a number of places. No remains of black paint are visible. Unclear if and when the paint was removed. Such armor was generally black in the seventeenth century. This was done by heating or by applying a black coat of paint. Collar is missing., anonymous, c. 1610 - c. 1620, iron (metal), h 33 cm × w 30 cm.
