Yellowish jade kneeling tribute bearer, Tang or Liao dynasty, China, 8th-11th century. Artist: Unknown

Yellowish jade kneeling tribute bearer, Tang or Liao dynasty, China, 8th-11th century. A jade figure of a tribute bearer kneeling on one knee the other leg bent. His hands are to one side holding up what may be a gourd lamp. The jade is of yellowish colour, the head and knee with brown suffusions. The long hair going down the back is in three short, but beautifully carved tresses, tied up by a circlet. The clothes are well done with a scarf round the shoulders.
