'Lord Rodney', (1718-1792), 1830. George Brydges Rodney (1718-1792) British naval officer known for his command in the American War of Independence and the Battle of the Saintes. He ran up debt pursuing political ambitions, served in the Seven Years' War and the Siege of Gibraltar and was made a peer in 1782. From "Biographical Illustrations", by Alfred Howard.
