The burning of Anne Askew, John Lascelles, John Adams and Nicholas Belenian at Smithfield, London, 1546 (1904). Anne Askew (1521-1546) an English poet and Protestant who was condemned as a heretic. She is the only woman on record known to have been both tortured in the Tower of London and burnt at the stake. From London in the Time of Tudors, by Sir Walter Besant.
