In 1864, one the featured performers at Barnum's American Museum was the dancer Ernestine de Faiber. To publicize her performances, de Faiber posed for this photograph with the showman. Phineas Taylor (P. T.) Barnum (July 5, 1810 - April 7, 1891) was an American showman and businessman. In 1841, he opened Barnum's American Museum with a changing series of live acts and curiosities, including albinos, giants, midgets, jugglers, magicians, exotic women, detailed models of cities and famous battles, and, eventually, a menagerie of animals.
