Deinotherium Remains

Looking down on the rather crumbly fossilized remains of a Deinotherium, a gigantic prehistoric elephant with tusks protruding downwards from the lower jaw. A four foot measuring rod is placed alongside the tusks. In the background, at a lower level, Mary Leakey can be seen at work. Deinotherium appeared in the Middle Miocene and continued until the Early Pleistocene.
