Horus Represented as a Falcon

Falcon representing the god Horus Behdety. The falcon has wings spread and is holding a shen ring. In ancient Egypt, a shen ring (partially shown here) was a circle with a line tangent to it, representing eternal protection. The figure of this god generally hovers protectively over the head of a king. Faience inlay, 4th century B.C., Late Period–Ptolemaic Period Egypt; possibly from Middle Egypt, Hermopolis.
