SS Manhattan In The Arctic

Canada: November, 1969 The SS Manhattan, an oil tanker outfitted with an icebreaker bow, as she crosses the Northwest Passage in the Arctic. The ship is 1005 feet long, and its beam was increased form 132 feet to 148 feet by the addition of a protective 'ice belt' to guard against hull penetration by the icebergs encountered on the expedition. The icebreaking bow added 65 feet to her length.
