On May 27, 1948, Nguy?n Van Xuân, then President of the Republic of Cochinchina, became President of the rightist Provisional Central Government of Vietnam (Th? tu?ng lâm th?i) following the merging of the government of Cochin China and Vietnam. Nguy?n Van Xuân later went into exile in France, where he died in 1989.
