He was born due to family circumstances in Almendralejo (Badajoz), on February 24, 1957, but soon moved to Seville, where he grew up in the San Pablo industrial estate. He was known as The "Gale of the Polígono" for his attacks on the left wing of the Verdiblanco attack. It debuted in the first division in the 1976-77 season, specifically on January 30, 1977, a Betis-Burgos match that ended with a 2-1 victory for Bética. With Betis he played in the first division for eight seasons, with a total of 246 games and 18 goals. He was transferred to Real Madrid in the summer of 1985.
