Park Guell is .a garden complex with architectural elements designed by Antonio Gaudi. The park was built in the years 1900-1914, and was turned into a public park in 1923, after the original idea of Count Eusebi Guell to create a garden city following the English model did not prosper. The Room (Salon) of the Hundred Columns - though in reality there are only 84 - was intended to house the market-place of the projected community. The columns, Doric in form, support tiny spherical cupolas on which the upper square stands.
