Title: ULISSE ALDROVANDI
Caption: Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522 - 1605), Italian naturalist and physician of the Renaissance. Refered to as Aldrovandus, Aldrovandi studied humanities, law, medicine and was also interested in philosophy and logic, botany, zoology, and geology. Aldrovandi taught in Bologna and was behind the creation of Bologna's botanical garden in 1568. In 1574, he wrote Antidotarii Bononiensis Epitome , describing the properties and constituents of drugs. His noble parentage and connection to pope Gregory XIII helped him out of trouble and opposition and funded the publishing of his books.
