Elasmotherium sibiricum, Pleistocene Rhinoceros

Elasmotherium sibiricum is a giant species of extinct rhinoceros that inhabited Eurasia during the Pleistocene to as late as 36,000 years ago. This species was larger than the other rhinoceroses and is thought to have a very long single horn on the forehead. Some researchers suggest that Elasmotherium is the origin of the unicorn legends. Here an individual is restored in a steppe environment during the Late Pleistocene.
