A strong channelized Aa lava flow (a lava river) on Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. Channels in Aa flows develop behind the tall advancing toes and help to push the sluggish lava forward. Note the smooth pahoehoe surrounding the channel. Also note the burned vegetation near the lava flow.
