Terracotta statuette of Eros flying. Culture: Greek, Asia Minor, Myrina. Dimensions: H.: 10 1/8 in. (25.7 cm). Date: ca. 200-150 B.C.. Eros wears a thick wreath and a skimpy chlamys (cloak) and is portrayed as a winged adolescent youth, a type that had a long history at Myrina beginning in the late third century B.C. The style of this finely executed terracotta likely reflects influence from the Pergamene school of sculpture, which flourished in the first half of the second century B.C. at the nearby city of Pergamon, seat of the kingdom ruled by the Attalid Dynasty.
