Engraving depicting Charles-Émile Reynaud's praxinoscope. A painted strip with figures was placed inside the circumference of the drum which was rotated. The image reflected in the mirrors in the centre of the apparatus gave the impression of a continuous moving picture. Charles-Émile Reynaud (1844-1918) a French inventor. Dated 19th century.
