3D CT of Hemicraniectomy

This frontal view from a 3D CT reconstruction derived from a CT of the head shows the appearance of a hemicraniectomy which is removal of a significant portion of the skull. This is often done when there is significant elevation of intracranial pressure/brain swelling to allow the brain to expand without the limitation of the overlying skull which when intact only provides a restricted intracranial volume.
