An engraving depicting a sectional view of the electrical furnace used by Henri Moissan to produce artificial diamonds by compressing pure sugar charcoal in a cylinder of soft iron with a soft iron plug: this was put in a crucible containing 200g of molten iron and melted in an electric furnace, the withdrawn and rapidly cooled. Dated 19th century.
