Isabella II (1830-1904). Queen of Spain (1833-1868). She was the elder daughter of Ferdinand VII by his fourth wife, Maria Cristina. Proclaimed queen on her father's death in 1833. During her minority (1833-1843), her mother and General Espartero acted as regents. Isabella settled in Paris, where in 1870 she abdicated in favour of her elder surviving son, the future king Alfonso XII (1874-1885), after the Revolution of 1868. Journey of the Queen mother, Isabella II, to Santander (Spain) on July 30, 1876. The king Alfonso XII, with the princess of Asturias, sailed to the frigate Numancia aboard the royal barge to receive his august mother. Both boarded onto the ship's bridge to embrace the queen mother and sisters, the Infanta Do–a Pilar, Do–a Paz and Do–a Eulalia. Drawing by Caula. Engraving.
