Maria Felicita Malibran (1808-1836), French-Spanish soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto. Daughter of the tenor Manuel García, she began her brief but intense career at a very early age. Famous throughout the world for her performances in the operas of Rossini and Bellini, she was considered one of the greatest singers of the nineteenth century. Her voice had an extraordinary range that permitted her to sing all three female registers without any difficulty. On Wings of Song by Wilfred Blunt, page 100.
