William Withey Gull (1816-1890) English physician born at Colchester, Essex. Studied at Guy's Hospital, London. Graduated as Bachelor of Medicine (MB) 1841 and Doctor of Medicine (MD) 1846. Remained consulting physician at Guy's for the rest of his life. Distinguished and described (1873) "cretinoid state in adults" (myxoedema) thyroid deficiency in middle age.
