Caption: Boston Phiale Painter, Attic Red-Figure Lekythos, ca. 430 BC, terracotta, 14 13/16 in. x 2 1/2 in. x 2 13/16 in. (37.62 cm x 6.35 cm x 7.14 cm), Originally designed as a perfume flask, this slender vessel is one of the highlights of the Museum's Attic vase paintings. To the left a young girl performs a dance step under the watchful eye of her teacher. The artist is the leading pupil of the renowned Achilles Painter, and was credited with introducing a more lively and human spirit into his scenes.
