family medal, Jan Boskam, 1698, minted, General: 3.8 x 0.2cm 38 x 2mm, Weight: 19.6g, Silver funeral medal by Cornelis Nicolai, died in 1698. On the obverse is an oval coat of arms with two stars and a arch of the foot depicted in a cartouche with scrollwork. Around the cartouche two palm branches, tied together with a bow. With caption: MVLTIS ILLE BONIS FLEBILIS OCCIDIT. On the reverse a grave monument with epitaph: PACE.TERRA.MARIQ BATAVIS.PARTA.PAX AET.DATA.CORN NICOLAI.VII.EID.APRIL CIC ICCXCVIII [the second and fourth C are inverted]. To the left of the tomb is a standing female figure with a pleated robe, the Faam with an acacia branch in the right hand, the left hand raised. On the right a standing male figure with a loose, pleated robe and a halo around the head. He rests his elbow on the tomb and his head on his hand. In front of the tomb a fallen jug with coins, a smoking torch and a lyre. Description: PERDIS.AIT.LACRYMAS. Marked on the cut-off, portrait, grave monument, woman, man.
