HARRIS & EWING. U.S.S. Solace, between 1914 and 1918. The SS Creole, built in 1896, was operated by Cromwell Steamship Lines. She was acquired by the US Navy in 1898, renamed Solace, and converted into a hospital ship. She was the first Navy ship to fly the Geneva Red Cross flag.
