Metacom, 1638 - 1676, also known as Metacomet or by his adopted English name King Philip. He was leader of the Wampanoag, a confederation of several New England tribes. In what became known as King Philip's War, he led an alliance against colonialists who Philip and his people saw as misusing and destroying natural resources.
