Spencer Rifle, Model 1865, .50 caliber. Manufactured by Spencer Repeating Rifle Company, Boston, Massachusetts. The Spencer could fire 20 rounds per minute, representing a significant advantage over standard muzzle-loaders, which could only fire 2-3 rounds per minute. It was used by the Union in the Civil War.
