The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Margaret and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were guests to., day at the wedding of the year between the 29 - year- old Earl of Dalkeith and Miss Jane McNeill) aged 22. Among the guests were farmers and Gamekeepers. maids, merchants and ministers from five Buccleuch estate. Seven hundred cars and thirty buses carried the I, 600 guests to St.Giles's Cathedral; Edinburgh, for the 40 minute service. Five hundred police were drafted to the cathedral area to control the mammoth crowd of tens of thousands of spectators. In the assembly room after the wedding, all the guests received a glass of champagne and a slice of the 196-lb wedding cake which had the two initials "j s" side by side on the second of its three.
