Heil Hitler salute given to the chairman of United States Special House Committee.

Called as the first witness before the Special House Committee investigating Un-American activities, John Metcalfe, former Chicago reporter but now an investigator for the committee, gives Chairman Martin Dies (right) a Nazi salute before taking the stand. Joining under the name of Helmut Oberwinder, Metcalfe related his experiences as a member of the German-American bund and charged the organization has a secret relationship with the Nazi government in Germany.
