Davies Gilbert, English Engineer and Politician

Davies Gilbert (born Davies Giddy, March6, 1767 - December 24, 1839) was a Cornish engineer and political figure. He served as a member of parliament where he was an outspoken supporter of engineering and scientific inquiry. His skills were sought by such early engineering pioneers as Jonathan horn blower, Richard Trevithick and Thomas tenfold. He was the president of the Royal Geological Society of Cornwall from itransverse section of foundation in 1814 until his death in 1839.
