Bioluminescent millipede

California is home to the world's only known group of bioluminescent millipedes, genus Motyxia. The light produced by these millipedes apparently ranges from white to greenish white. Motyxia sequoia alia is one of the bioluminescent species from the southern Sierra Nevada range. Compare with images photographed by it's own light.
