Nelson's Uncle Captain Maurice Suckling. Entered the Navy when very young and become a lieutenant in 1745 and captain in 1755, when he commisioned the Dreadnought, of Sixty Guns. He took command of the Raisonable in 1770 and the Triumph in 1771: was appointed Comptoller of the Navy 1775, and was elected M.P. for Portsmouth shortly before his death in 1778.
