Mary Church Terrell (September 23, 1863 - July 24, 1954) was one of the first African-American women to earn a college degree, and an activist for civil rights and suffrage. She helped found the National Association of Colored Women and served as its first national president. Engraving by J. H. Cunningham for The Colored American newspaper, February 17th, 1900.
