Caroline Link wins Oscar - but stays in Munich

(dpa) - German film director Caroline Link hold a bunch of flowers and laughs happily in Munich, 24 March 2003. Last night she won an Oscar for her film 'Nirgendwo in Afrika' ('Nowhere in Africa') in the category Best Foreign Language Film. The 38-year-old director could not attend the award show personally because her seven-months-old daughter had fallen ill. It is the first time for 23 years that a German film wins an Oscar, and only the second time in history. In 1998 Caroline Link had already been nominated for an Oscar for her film 'Jenseits der Stille' ('Beyond Silence'). 24/03/2003
