David Stewart of Garth (1772-1829) Scottish soldier and author. Entered the 42nd Highlanders in 1787. Badly wounded at the Battle of Alexandria (Aboukir) in 1801 when the British defeated the French. Created Major-General in 1825. When he died he was serving as Governor of St Lucia. Author of Sketches ...of the Highlanders of Scotland: with Details of the Military Service of the Highland Regiments (1822).
