Asteroid 2005 YU55

Asteroid 2005 YU55 streaks through the sky as it passes inside the Moon's orbit on the night of closest approach. The Near Earth Object (NEO) is 400 meters in diameter and passed the Earth at a distance of about 201,700 miles (85% of the distance to the Moon). This 30-second exposure was made while the asteroid passed through the constellation of Pegasus at 03:27 UT on November 9, 2011 (10:27 Eastern Standard Time on November 8, 2011). This image was made with a digital camera and a telescope of 1 meter of focal length.
