Foucault Pendulum, Griffith Observatory

Foucault Pendulum was devised to demonstrate Earth's rotation. It is essentially a tall pendulum, free to oscillate in any vertical plane. The plane in which the pendulum swings rotates with time because of Earth's daily rotation. Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles is a well known institution devoted to public astronomy and science outreach. After several years of being closed for extensive renovations the observatory reopened to public in November 2006.
