Boy of 15 gives alarm in London house fire four injured. John Davies, aged 15, gave the alarm when fire broke out at a house in New Church Road, Camberwell. His father, Arthur Davies, aged 41, his mother, Winifred Davis, aged about 40, his 11-year-old brother Ivor Davies, and Arthur George Bird a lodger were injured and in St Giles Hospital, Camberwell. John Davies says he was awakened by crackling and when he opened his bedroom door. The heat was terrific and clouds of smoke were coming up the staircase. He managed to escape without injury. 30 December 1937.
