Engraving depicting Sir Thomas Lombe's silk mill on the river Derwent at Derby. This was the first water-powered textile mill in Britain (circa. 1720) and preceded Arkwright's by 50 years. Thomas Lombe (1685-1739) an English merchant and developer of machinery for silk throwing. Dated 19th century.
