P. T. Barnum, American Businessman and Showman

Phineas Taylor "P. T." Barnum (July 5, 1810 - April 7, 1891) was an American showman and businessman. In 1841, he opened "Barnum's American Museum" with a changing series of live acts and curiosities, including albinos, giants, midgets, jugglers, magicians, exotic women, detailed models of cities and famous battles, and, eventually, a menagerie of animals. In 1870, he established "P. T. Barnum's Grand Traveling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan & Hippodrome". In 1881 he merged with James Bailey and the name was shortened to "Barnum & Bailey Circus," which toured the world. No photographer credited, undated (cropped and cleaned).
