The late Mr. J. Augustine Wade,1845. Creator: Unknown.

The late Mr. J. Augustine Wade, 1845. Portrait of Irish composer and conductor Joseph Augustine Wade. 'When a boy, between nine and ten years of age, Mr. Wade left home, presented himself at the gate of Trinity College, Dublin, and, addressing the porter in Latin, according to usage, obtained his admission...He subsequently studied as a surgeon, but ultimately adopted music as a profession...Mr. Wade was a classical scholar, a master of modern languages, an accomplished instrumentalist, and a profound theorist. He was agreeable and courteous in personal character and conversation, generous and frank in disposition; had he possessed more persevering industry, his excellent scholarship and natural genius would have secured to him more substantial results. We lament to learn that he has left a widow totally unprovided for'. From "Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII.
