Diabase is a basaltic rock which is comparatively coarse grained. Dolerite is a synonym for diabase. Diabase is made up of the essential minerals of basalt: olivine, augite and plagioclase feldspar. The chemical and microscopic features of diabase is almost identical to basalts.
