'The 17th Lancers. The Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava', 1854, (1939). Battle at Balaklava, Crimean War, Russia, 25 October 1854, with lines of the cavalry advancing straight into a line of cannon fire. Lord Raglan gave the order for the disastrous British cavalry charge, immortalised in Tennyson's poem, in which the Light Brigade suffered 40% casualties.
