Cross-section of a Cowpers gland (bulbourethral gland), composed of several lobules, each opening into a duct. All of the ducts join together outside of the gland to form a single excretory duct through which lubricating secretions enter the urethra. The Cowpers gland produces a thick, clear mucus that is released prior to ejaculation to neutralize traces of acidic urine within the urethra.
