Parietal lobe : somatosensory cortex.. The parietal lobe of the brain includes the somatosensory cortex : primary somatosensory cortex (at the level of the postcentral gyrus, in light blue) and somatosensory association cortex (or posterior parietal cortex parietal, in dark blue).. The primary somatosensory cortex (light blue) collects the messages coming from the sensorial receptors of the somesthesia : sense of touch, proprioception, nociception and temperature. The somatosensory association cortex (dark blue) plays a fundamental role in voluntarily movement, by evaluating the context in which it will be performed. Therefore, herefore, the somatosensorial, proprioceptive and visual information, are transmitted to the somatosensory association cortex.
